Writer’s block

Not really WRITER’S block, more like photographer’s block. Next weekend I will take photos of my friend Cintia, it will be fun. Not really sure what to ask of her.

I was thinking some photos around the Carlton Gardens: on the benches, the grass, close to the Royal Exhibition Building… maybe in the Melbourne Museum area. I will take my flash set in case I need it.

But at the end of the day, I don’t really know what to take photos of. I’ve been trying to ‘direct’ models, but for me to direct them, I must first have a vision… and in all honesty: I just don’t have one.

The same happened to me when I was a developer, easily in my career. I wanted to learn to write code, and wanted to write it for fun, but didn’t really know what to build. With that, going to a consulting company really helped me fulfil that void: they would assign me a task and I would implement the software. I didn’t need to be creative on WHAT to build, just HOW to build it.

Same is happening now: I don’t know WHAT to photograph… and if I had to take it to the next level, I don’t know if I would necessarily know HOW to do it. But for me, the learning of the how is A LOT of fun. That’s why I need a WHAT to do, so I can explore the many different hows.
