Dan Dan Noodles

I love eating. I love photography. I like cooking.

I generally try to make dinners as easy and quick as possible during the week. It’s not alway easy to do so and please Dean (he’s got a peculiar priority in his eating).

Yesterday I made Chow Mein and he loved it. Did not take a photo with my camera, especially since Chow Mein is quite visually simple. Thin noodles with julliened veggies and some dark brown sauce. I’m not trying to downplay Chow Mein, it is delicious, but I can’t really think of a way of producing a “I must eat this” photo of it.

Today, on the other hand, I made Dan Dan noodles. The fun thing about Dan Dan noodles is that it is a layered dish: at the bottom the spicy sauce, then the cooked noodles, the pork mince, choy sum, preserved vegetables, scallions (used the ones grown in our wall garden) and Sichuan peppercorn.

As a food photo for advertisement, it lacks a bit. When photographing food for marketing, the image should show everything you would eat as part of the dish. The thing that is not visible in this photo is the mince pork. Other than that, I think it looks fantastic (maybe a bit brighter).
